Bio
Justin Alsterlund has been the Principal at Wendell high school since 2017. Mr. Alsterlund completed his Professional Preparation Programs for Principal and Superintendent certification through Lamar University. He holds a master’s degree in Secondary Teacher Education with an emphasis in curriculum and school management from the University of Phoenix. His B.S. degree is in Physical Education and Health from Eastern Oregon University where he also played collegiate basketball and football. Mr. Alsterlund was a 2 time All-American football player at EOU. Currently, he’s in his 18th year of education. His professional experiences include being a paraprofessional, classroom teacher, and numerous head coaching positions. He also teaches online classes for the Idaho Digital Learning Alliance and has served on numerous COGNIA accreditation teams.
Mr. Alsterlund married the love of his life Merilee in 2015. They have 2 dogs, Ice-Man and Charlie. They have 2 children named Maverick and Georgia Joyce. He enjoys the outdoors, sporting events, all genres of music, and LOVES waterfowl hunting. GO TROJANS!

As Principal, I am honored to lead a school built on the core values of Persistence, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence. These values are more than just words; they represent the expectations we set, the relationships we build, and the culture we strive to create each day.
We believe education goes beyond academic achievement. It is about developing character, building confidence, discovering individual strengths, and preparing students for future opportunities. Our dedicated staff works hard to provide a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Relationships, accountability, and school culture matter. When students feel valued, supported, and connected to their school, great things can happen. Through high expectations, meaningful opportunities, and a commitment to continuous improvement, we strive to help every student reach their full potential.
One of our greatest strengths is the support of our families and the Wendell community. We recognize that student success is a shared responsibility, and we value the partnerships that make Wendell High School such a special place.
